The U.S. Air Force bestowed upon the University of Florida a $100.000 grant to see if the noise of low-flying F-4 Phantom fighter jets would have a negative effect on pregnant horses in the Southwest. If you're a motorist passing through Pennsylvania and sight a team of horses coming toward you, you must pull well off the road, cover your vehicle with a blanket or canvas that blends in with the countryside, and let the horses pass. If one of the horses is skittish, you must take your car apart piece by piece and hide it under the nearest bush. Mathewson, of Gilroy California, invented a gasoline motorcar that looked like a horse. His idea was so that it would not frighten real horses.
