PENQUIS - North Country Riding Club is holding their Annual Basket Bingo Fundraiser featuring huge and mostly retired Longaberger Baskets on Saturday March 29th, 1:00pm. The doors at American Legion Post #29 will open at 11:30am on 78 Park Street, Dover-Foxcroft. $15 at the door buys you a card with three faces for the 10 regular games. Additional cards will be for sale as well as special games for some really big baskets! Most baskets at this Bingo were retired February 29th and are no longer available for purchase. A homemade Baked Bean dinner with hot dogs and rolls will be a luncheon highlight or you can order grilled hotdogs and or nachos; homemade sweets and hot and cold drinks will also on sale. Come hungry and enjoy a wonderful lunch! If you have any questions on Basket Bingo, contact NCRC Secretary Angie Coy at 343-0033 or talk to an NCRC member. All proceeds benefit the North Country Riding Club and the NCRC Irene Cochran Scholarship fund. In other NCRC news, North Country Riding is beginning their 8th season with a officers President Nicole Biggar of Exeter, Vice President Kim Derosier of Dexter, Secretary Angela Coy of Dover-Foxcroft, Treasurer Dody Boeglin of Exeter and Show Secretary Judy Wilbur Craig of Dexter. At the Year End Awards Banquet in November 2007 awards were given to the following members. Halter: Open: Lead line: Walk/Trot 12 & under: Walk/Trot 13-17: Walk/Trot 18 & over: Walk/Trot/Canter 12 & under: Walk/Trot/Canter 13-17: Walk/Trot/Canter 18 & over: For the 2008 season we have set our show dates which are: At the July show NCRC will host three classes for members of the Maine Appaloosa Horse Club that will be pointed towards MAHC year end awards. The August show will be an All Trophy Show during Dexter's 6th Annual Wild West Weekend. These shows are held at the Bud Ellms Field in Dexter As a club we made the decision at our January meeting to omit a game show this season. In place of this we have decided to host our first annual Family Fun Day for members, date TBA. This day will include an organized trail ride in the morning with a BBQ lunch followed by arena activities for the kids in the afternoon. A new addition to our calendar of events NCRC will be hosting a Carriage Day on June 21st with judge Judith Bean-Calhoun. In the spirit of combining the local horse communities (and having more room for carriages) this show will be held at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds in Dover-Foxcroft.
